A few days ago I had to configure a brand new NetApp.
This time the storage wasn’t a famous FAS system but the little brother E-Series .

The storage used was an E2824 with two type of disks:

  • 6 x 800GB SSD
  • 14 x 1.2TB SAS 10K

On these disks was created two Volume Group (RAID):

  • SSD disks: RAID5 with hot spare
  • SAS disks: RAID6 with hot spare

Below the physical representation of the VG:
On the left side of the array there is the SSD RAID and on the right the SAS.

This storage was direct attached via SAS on two VMware hosts in multipath configuration.

I made some easy tests on one VM on the virtual environment for sharing this screens.

IOMeter

Below some tests done with these settings:

  • 10 workers
  • All workload summed

Crystal Disk Mark

Below some tests done with the default settings.
